I have a small confession to make. I’ve always had a thing for socks. They’re one of the least glamorous parts of our everyday wardrobe, but they are extremely important for comfort. Also, I’ve always thought they’re a great way to add a little variety to your outfit without being flashy about it. There are so many different types of socks out there: running socks, hunting socks, hiking socks, everyday socks, dress socks, and toe socks (a personal favorite). This list doesn’t even begin to touch women’s hosiery, which I will admit that I know nothing about. We wanted to review socks, and have to start somewhere so we decided to kick it off with men’s dress socks! If you have a sock company you’d like to include, feel free to leave a comment below!

1 AprNew Category Kickoff: Snow Helmets
8 JanWinter’s here, and do you know what that means? SNOW!!!
I know many people out there are braving the freezing temperatures and chilling wind on the weekdays just so they can escape to the slopes on the weekends. Snowboarders and skiers will be heading to the mountains to have some fun over the next few weeks, and we want to make sure everyone is being safe.
Head trauma is a serious concern when either snowboarding or skiing, and helmets are highly encouraged. Currently, about 40% of people use a helmet when snowboarding or skiing. We hope that number increases, and that these reviews will help guide those purchases.
Stay safe (and warm)!
New Category Kickoff: Wraparound Ear-Muffs
16 DecIt sure is getting cold out there! And the worst part is when the wind picks up and your ears feel like they’re about to fall off. When that happens, there really isn’t a better solution than wraparound earmuffs. Most winter hats look too casual, and standard earmuffs went out of style decades ago.
Over the next week or two, we’re going to take a quick look at the world of wraparound earmuffs to see if we can find a good way to keep your ears out of the cold while also give you another great option for a last minute Christmas present.
New Category Kickoff: Binders
22 AugSummer is slowly winding down (much to our sadness), but that means one thing…back to school shopping! With millions of parents and students buying everything from pencils to backpacks, we had a hard time picking just one category to review. We’re going with a product that people use all the way from elementary school to college and beyond: the binder!
If you’re looking for some back to school recommendations right now, check our colored pencil, crayon, and finger paint recaps. There is at least one American Alternative Approved product that is made in the USA in each category, but there are plenty of products to choose from.
As always, if you have any questions or suggestions, feel free to leave a comment below, comment on Facebook, or tweet us @AmericanAlt. We’d love to hear from you!
